The Hand-in-hand Program (known as “hi-H Program”) workshop on mobile roaming quality took place on 29 March in Macau during 2017 WAS#5, which marked the official launching of its roaming quality enhancement project. 26 representatives from 14 global operators among hi-H members gathered in Macau to look for ways to improve roaming quality of Voice, Data and SMS services.
Roaming Quality Enhancement Project is a joint collaboration project among 14 hi-H members particularly on their joint efforts to boost roaming quality in terms of Voice, Data and SMS services for their respective end users. As a global partnership platform, hi-H Program aims to facilitate this multiparty collaboration to leverage the strengths and resources of the signing parties in order to increase their market competitiveness, enhance end-to-end services delivered to customers, and improve customer perception.
The 14 members include China Mobile International, Orange, Deutsche Telekom, StarHub, KT Corporation, Telenor, Telstra, True Corporation, Türk Telekom International, VimpelCom, FarEasTone, China Mobile Hong Kong, Chunghwa Telecom Mobile and CTM. The 2 co-chairmen appointed by hi-H program Executive Office are Angus Tse, Head of Mobile Network & Application Engineering from China Mobile International and William Ku, General Manager of Global Services from Starhub.
Host by the project co-chairman Angus Tse, 26 global operator representatives had a constructive discussion during the workshop, sharing their knowledge and expertise on how to deliver high-quality voice services and outbound traffic via CLI supportive routes, how to allow fast message delivery and secure reliable message transmission, how to improve and leverage members’ IPX capabilities and optimize multiple connections to simplify network transport to increase operational efficiency and lower operating costs.
Following the workshop, concrete steps are to be taken to secure the smooth execution of the project, including regular bilateral test on roaming quality and working group meetings among the members. And the project’s 2nd workshop is expected to be held in Shanghai in June during MWC 2017 period for members to continuously troubleshoot roaming problems and move forward to accelerate roaming.
